Applauded by critics not only for its artistic performances, the BFM also receives high acclaim for its splendorous costumes, described as “excellent’, “authentic”, “beautiful”, and “unique”.  Carlos Moreno Samaniego with the collaboration of his wife Angelina Moreno and son Carlos have formed a brilliant designing team.  Careful thought is taken before introducing a new dance on to the stage.  The same careful investigation that is taken in selecting a new dance region, its music and choreography, is taken in the design of the costumes.  The beauty of the costumes therefore is the result of a careful investigation that takes place prior to its elaboration and the great care that is taken by Master Designer Angelina Moreno in the production process.

Angelina Garcia Jauregui, was born in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes Mexico, but was raised in the state of Jalisco in the city of Teocaltiche.  During her time there, she studied confection and cortege until receiving her certificate as a Clothing Designer.  At the age of 19, her father migrated do the United States, obtaining a place to live in the city of Livermore, CA.  This is precisely where Angelina met Carlos Moreno.

Soon after, on May 9, 1964 Angelina and Carlos wedded.  One year later their first born child Alma Delia arrives to the Moreno Family being born into an artistic environment.

Since the inception of the Company and still to this date, Angelina has played an important role in the development of the BFM.  The hard work and dedication of the couple, as Director, Instructor and Costume Designer has led the Company to be known as one of the most Authentic, Influential Mexican Art Importers on this side of the border.  Mrs. Moreno has known how to warily maintain that special detail in each and every one of her special designs, allowing her and Carlos to elaborate on pieces that are exclusive to the Company.  Every detail is carefully selected in the design process of the costumes; from the texture of the fabric, the quality, the colors combined with the lace, ribbon, buttons and bordered pieces.

With her detailed vision towards costume design, Angelina has accomplished high acclamation by critics and the general public on the elaboration of the company’s on stage costumes compared to those of other dance groups.  All these accomplishments are due partly to her tenacity in the process of getting the Wardrobe on a dancer and on stage.  Angelina takes in consideration the dance piece, music, and even the lighting that will be reflecting down onto her design. After carefully placing every detail in its respective place, Mrs. Moreno will never allow one of her designs to reach stage presence without carefully re-inspecting every piece of lace, ribbon, button, zipper and finally the fit of the costume on a dancer.  These many details of a Designer are the important qualities that make a difference on the success and high acclamation of the Company.

In 1983, during one of the many visits to Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico, the reporter Hilda Moran from “Periodico 8 Columnas”, stated that “Despite being a foreign company, the Ballet Folklorico Mexicano from the San Francisco Bay Area, impressively carries beautiful costumes.”  During on of the performances in California on Mr. Raul Velasco’s popular Mexican Spanish Program “Siempre end Domingo”, Mr. Velasco stated, “Why bring a Company from Mexico, when we have Carlos Moreno here?  The costumes illuminate the stage beautifully.”

All of these experiences and comments become the best testimony and confirmation that Angelina Moreno’s professionalism as a prestigious designer have given the company a secure spot in the Folklorico circuit.  Mrs. Moreno’s hard work, labor and long hours of dedication have often been over looked, but once seeing a complete production of the Company you will be remembered that behind that piece of lace is a Woman that has much talent, love and detail to the formation of Mexican Art.
