Music plays a central role in all of the world’s cultures.  In Mexico, we are blessed with distinguished diverse music influenced by the many cultures that have settled into the country.  The many forms of music found in Mexico, have allowed the culture to be one the richest in the World. Some tunes are more familiar than others.  Of the most recognized, are the sounds of the flute and drum from the many indigenous groups dating back to Pre-Columbian Mexico, as well as the Banda from the pacific coast regions.   The marimba from the south and the festive sound of the accordion used for polkas of northern Mexico, are recognizable tunes as well, but the most internationally recognized sound, is that of the Mariachi from Central Mexico.

Through the years, the BFM has been fortunate to work with talented local musicians, who have accompanied the group for many of its performances and major productions.  Some of the pieces include music from Jalisco, Sinaloa, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chihuahua, Tamaulipas and Durango.  Live music has been an essential feature, that’s allowed the BFM’s major productions to have an overall, enhancing, distinctive completion.  The Company has benefited greatly by the enormous collection of music recorded by many brilliant musicians from Mexico.

As well as using these resources, the Company has also produced some of its own music, composing tunes for “Danza de Los Concheros” and “Danza de Matachines”.  The first, which draws from rhythms performed by Danzantes for the Virgen de Guadalupe, was composed by Carlos G. Moreno and recorded by him playing the “Huehuetl” (drum) and Alberto Alfaro playing the mandolin.  “Danza de Matachines” is special to the Moreno family, due in part of its history and representation that Marcos Moreno performed in La Perla, Durango.  This Danza was arranged by Carlos G. Moreno and recorded by him playing the “Tambora” (drum) and Javier Magallon playing the violin.  The Company also performs to its own produced music for the states of “Michoacan”, “Veracruz”, “Chiapas”, “Tamaulipas” and “Jalisco”.

Mariachi Colima has been working exclusively with the BFM since the year 2000.  The Mariachi Band’s director, Javier Magallon, has taken full and careful responsibility in the reproduction of the music used by the company.   His talent and love for the Art, has led him and his band to assure that the highest quality of music is used for representation of dances from the BFM.
